Bournemouth Airport sits 28 miles east of Southampton — the closest commercial airport to our hub. The route network is limited but useful: TUI summer charters, Ryanair budget routes, and Channel Islands connections via Aurigny.
The chauffeur run
Distance: ~28 miles via the A31 / A338. Time: 45-60 minutes off-peak. Fixed-fare from Southampton: £65 (standard saloon) — our cheapest published airport transfer.
This makes Bournemouth a particularly cost-effective option for Southampton-area travellers heading to TUI / Ryanair charter destinations.
Surcharge structure
- Drop-off / pickup: £6 for 30 minutes (same zone for both)
- Pickup-at-terminal: allowed; driver can wait kerbside briefly
- Free option: P4 area, short walk (driver-side use only when there's a delay)
The single-zone, 30-minute window keeps the operations simple — same kerbside spot serves both arrival pickup and departure drop.
Common booking patterns
- TUI / Jet2 summer charters. Bournemouth has steady Mediterranean charter traffic April-October. Early-morning departure times benefit most from pre-booked chauffeur.
- Ryanair short-haul. Limited routes, but where they exist (Faro, Malta, Krakow), the fare-plus-chauffeur math is competitive.
- Channel Islands. Aurigny operates from Bournemouth to Guernsey; Loganair occasionally.
Vehicle category
For 28 miles, Standard saloon is fine for solo or pair. Standard MPV for 3-4 passengers with summer-holiday luggage. Executive class is rarely worth the premium on this distance.
