Child seats and booster policy

What we provide, what we expect parents to bring, what's legally required by age group.

UK law on child seats in licensed private-hire vehicles is more permissive than for parents driving their own car — but the safest approach is still to use proper restraints.

UK PHV legal position

In licensed taxis and PHVs, children may travel without a child seat if a correctly fitted one is not available. Children under 3 must be in a rear seat. Children 3-12 (under 135cm) should use the adult seat belt where no child seat is fitted.

This is the legal minimum — most parents prefer to provide their own child seat or request one from us.

What we provide on request

We can supply on request (book ahead 48+ hours):

  • Group 0+ baby seat (rear-facing, infants ≤9 months)
  • Group 1 child seat (forward-facing, ~9 months - 4 years)
  • Group 2/3 booster (~4-12 years)

No charge for these — included in the booking. Specify on the booking note.

What we'd recommend you bring

If you've a seat that fits your child specifically, your own seat is the safer call. Drivers can install on arrival.
