Glasgow Airport sits west of the city, M8-served. Less Festival-driven than Edinburgh and operationally cleaner — direct M8 access without the city-centre tram bottleneck.
The chauffeur run
Distance: ~430 miles via M40 / M6 / M74. Time: Similar to Edinburgh (~7-8 hours each way). Pricing: Per-mile rate, ~£700 standard saloon. Volume discount applies.
Long-distance chauffeur Southampton → Glasgow is uncommon. Most relevant patterns:
- Cross-country corporate transfers (London business → Glasgow office)
- Multi-day Scotland tours
- Heathrow → Glasgow chauffeur for passengers avoiding short-haul flights
Surcharges
- £6 drop-off for 15 minutes
- £8 short-stay for 20 minutes
- Free Long Stay (10-minute walk / 7-minute transfer)
The Long Stay free option is the practical pick when a flight is significantly delayed — driver waits there until the inbound lands.
When Glasgow beats Edinburgh
For non-Festival travel:
- Cleaner traffic. M8 doesn't suffer the Festival August surge.
- Slightly cheaper short-haul. Some Ryanair / easyJet European routes are cheaper Glasgow-side.
- Marginally faster transfer to/from the city. M8 vs. Edinburgh's tram.
For Festival travel, Edinburgh is the right airport. For everything else, Glasgow often is.
