Southampton Airport (SOU) is our home airport — five miles from the office and the closest commercial airport for SO14-53 postcodes. Smaller than Bournemouth, with a tight European short-haul and Channel Islands network.
The chauffeur run
Distance: 4-12 miles depending on Southampton pickup point. Time: 15-30 minutes. Pricing: Per-mile rate from local Southampton pickups — typically £20-35 standard saloon. No fixed-fare route (the distance is too short for a flat fare to make sense).
For longer pickups within Hampshire / Dorset / IOW (via ferry), per-mile rate applies — Winchester is ~£40, Bournemouth area ~£70.
Surcharge structure
- Drop-off: £7 for 20 minutes (ANPR-based, cashless)
- Short-stay: £15 for 60 minutes (same zone as drop-off)
- Long Stay: currently closed
The same zone serves both pickup and drop-off — driver enters once, parks if pickup, exits if drop. The 20-minute window is generous.
Route network
- Loganair — Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen (regional UK)
- Eastern Airways / Aurigny — Channel Islands (Jersey, Guernsey)
- easyJet / KLM / Air France — limited European short-haul
Southampton is best known for the Heathrow connector — train via Southampton Airport Parkway → Reading → Heathrow Express. For travellers using this routing, chauffeur to Southampton Airport Parkway (£10-15 short distance) is the practical first leg.
Why a chauffeur for the local airport
The 4-12 mile distance is short, but the timing matters:
- Early-morning departures: No reliable taxi rank service before 06:00.
- Late-arriving inbound: Rail to local accommodation may have stopped.
- Heavy luggage: Walking from Parkway station is non-trivial with cases.
